Itinerary

Day 1: Iquitos – Nauta – Pacaya Samiria Reserve

The experience begins with pickup at Iquitos airport or directly from the hotel for those already in the city. Transfer is made by private bus to the city of Nauta, via the modern road connecting both locations (approximately 105 km, a 2-hour journey). Nauta is a tropical city located on the banks of the Marañón River, very close to its confluence with the Ucayali, the origin of the Amazon River. This town, with around 15,000 inhabitants, is known for its traditional environment and activities related to fishing and handicrafts.

From here, the journey continues on a private boat, fully equipped with safety measures. The trip proceeds along the Marañón River towards the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. The first stop is at the Manco Cápac community to register entry into the reserve, while enjoying lunch on board.

After registration, the journey continues to the Yanayacu-Pucate basin, reaching Dorado Lagoon. Here the camp is set up with travel tents, where the first night is spent. In the afternoon, the Yacutaitas community is visited, where locals share their sustainable natural resource management practices. Finally, the day ends with dinner in the heart of the Amazon rainforest, marking the beginning of a unique experience on the complete expedition in the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve.

Day 2: Pacaya Samiria Reserve

Early in the morning, exploration begins around the lagoon; this is the perfect time to spot a variety of birds welcoming the day. In these waters, gray and pink dolphins are often seen, adding a memorable touch to the experience.

After this first activity, breakfast is served at the camp to keep the day moving. Then, the journey continues in small local boats to enter the flooded forest; along the way, the lush vegetation and the sounds of the rainforest create a unique atmosphere.

Later on, there is a chance to try piranha fishing using traditional techniques and, for those who wish, to enjoy a swim in the river while sharing the same habitat as the dolphins. By late afternoon, the return to the first camp allows time to rest and organize the next days of the route, rounding off a balanced day of nature and adventure.

Day 3: Yanayacu River

After breakfast at camp, the day is organized by splitting the group into two teams for the planned activities. First, navigation continues along the Yanayacu River to a place known as “London,” a name given by the small local communities. During the trip, different ecotourism activities are carried out, with lunch served on board or on the shore, while the logistics team remains attentive at all times.

In the afternoon, activities continue in coordination with the local guide, making it possible to use the best access points and timing at each stop. Finally, at night there is an outing to search for caimans and other wild species, a nocturnal observation experience that adds excitement to the route and complements the complete expedition in Pacaya Samiria.

Day 4: London – Llacchiwa

After breakfast at the camp, the route continues from the London area to Llacchiwa, a section of primary forest known for its natural richness. During the walk, it is possible to observe various species such as monkeys, sloths, and macaws that inhabit the treetops, filling the path with the characteristic sounds of the rainforest.

At midday, there is a pause to enjoy lunch surrounded by this unique environment. Later, the experience continues with a guided walk focused on learning about medicinal plants, their traditional uses, and some basic survival knowledge in the jungle, directly connected with the Amazon ecosystem.

As the afternoon ends, the return to camp offers time to rest and reflect on what was learned before dinner. In this way, the day blends exploration, knowledge, and immersion in the forest, key aspects of the complete expedition in Pacaya Samiria.

Day 5: Llacchiwa – Soledad

After breakfast at the camp, the journey continues from Llacchiwa towards the Soledad area, carrying all the necessary equipment to continue the expedition. Along the way, we enter primary jungle areas, where the density of the forest and the sounds of nature accompany every step, creating a unique Amazonian experience.

Throughout the day, different ecotourism and exploration activities will take place, always in the company of the local guide, who shares valuable knowledge about the species that inhabit this environment. The walk offers the chance to discover part of the extraordinary biodiversity that characterizes Pacaya Samiria, from medicinal plants to birds and mammals typical of the rainforest.

At midday, there will be a break to enjoy lunch surrounded by the tranquility of the reserve. Finally, upon reaching Soledad, the camp will be set up to spend the night, ending the day with dinner in a truly Amazonian atmosphere.

Day 6: Soledad – Yarina Community (Ormarena Project)

After breakfast at the campsite, the journey continues from Soledad towards the Yarina community, where a meaningful experience of cultural exchange and learning awaits. Upon arrival, there will be the opportunity to discover the Ormarena project, a local initiative focused on the management and conservation of natural resources.

This community group has been working sustainably for over 30 years with different species and resources of the Amazon rainforest. During the visit, participants will learn about the responsible management of the aguaje palm and the conservation efforts of river turtles, known locally as taricayas, which are vital for the ecological balance of the area. The locals will share their knowledge and practices, showing how the community protects its environment while preserving traditions.

The day ends with a moment of integration, joining the community members in a friendly soccer game, creating bonds and offering a genuine glimpse into local life. Dinner will be enjoyed later in this welcoming Amazonian setting.

Day 7: Yarina Community – Renacal

After breakfast in the Yarina community, the journey continues towards the Renacal area, a privileged environment surrounded by primary rainforest. Along the way, there will be opportunities to enjoy various ecotourism activities that bring us closer to the natural richness of the Amazon.

Upon arrival at the new campsite, we will explore jungle trails through both daytime and nighttime walks, perfect moments to discover the incredible biodiversity that thrives in this ecosystem. During these explorations, it is possible to observe different species of flora and fauna, each adapted to the unique conditions of the tropical rainforest.

At the end of the day, lunch and later dinner will be shared in this natural setting, surrounded by the tranquility and atmosphere of the Amazon.

Day 8: Renacal – Fundo Itaca, Marañón River

After breakfast in the Renacal area, the expedition continues towards Fundo Itaca, a project dedicated to the conservation of medicinal plants. This initiative, led by its founder Jorge Luis, aims to rescue and highlight ancestral knowledge about the use of natural medicine, preserving traditions that are part of the Amazonian cultural legacy.

During the day, the group will also explore the non-flooded forest of the Casual area, discovering species unique to this ecosystem. The itinerary also includes a visit to Chiric Yacu Lake, a beautiful natural setting that offers the perfect environment for observation and contemplation.

The day ends at the Itaca farm, where the group will spend the night. Lunch will be served during the day, and dinner will be enjoyed in the evening, surrounded by the Amazonian landscape.

Day 9: Fundo Itaca – Grau Community

After breakfast at Itaca Farm, we will head towards the Grau community, a picturesque local town that reflects the cultural essence of the Peruvian Amazon. During the visit, there will be the opportunity to learn about the traditions of its inhabitants and their way of living in harmony with nature.

On this day, we will also enjoy a special moment swimming in the majestic Amazon River, right at the point where it flows through the city of Iquitos. It will be an unforgettable experience that connects directly with the greatness of the jungle.

At night, the community will bid us farewell with local musicians playing traditional melodies on drums and quenas, creating a unique atmosphere of celebration and closing of the adventure. Lunch will be served during the day, and dinner in the evening, before spending the last night in this Amazonian setting.

I had an excellent experience with Peru Jungle Trips!
I was in Cusco and wanted to visit the jungle originally thinking Tambopata, overwhelmed with options. My desire was to visit the Amazon and be deep in the jungle with few people. I walked into the office and met Pedro who talked with me for over half an hour explaining different options. Ultimately, Pedro told me that Manu National Park is the place to be in the jungle with few people. Pedro helped me book a 6 day tour in Manu National Park 2 days later.
It is hard to describe how special Manu national park was. The trees, the wildlife, the river, seeing uncontacted Natives, and hearing all of the jungle sounds.
I would not have experienced Manu National Park without Pedro and Peru Jungle Trips.
I highly recommend this business!
Also thank you Celia for your kindness and the Poncho :)

Pedro recommended the tour to Machu Picchu via Hydroelectrica route understanding my preference to hike whenever possible. He listened to my questions and came up with the appropriate advice. Not only that, Pedro is very knowledgeable of Inca history and relevant places of interest around Cusco. Thanks to Pedro - I was able to visit Saqsaywaman, Temple of the Moon and Kusilluchayoc!

A great experience without a doubt. I took the 7 day tour to the reserved area of the manu and it was fantastic. The guide was very friendly, the cook always made good food and all the drivers/crew were very professional.

In the reserve we could find many types of fauna and the guide gave information at all times and knew many species.

Excellent tour (4 days, 3 nights) including the first morning at the Belén market. Very friendly. They fulfilled the itinerary with some flexibility and accommodated some minor requests we had. The accommodations are simple and have electricity and internet a couple of hours a day, but most of the time you'll be exploring the surrounding area, almost always by motorboat. Kevin, our guide, was pleasant and interesting; definitely a recommended experience.

If you’re looking for more than just a trip, and want to feel the energy of the Amazon while being guided by someone who truly embodies the spirit of the land, ask for Kevin.

From the moment I arrived in Peru, Peru Jungle Trips made everything feel effortless and personal. Pedro, the owner, greeted me at the airport with a warm, open energy that immediately set the tone for the rest of the journey. He thoughtfully organized both parts of my trip, first to Cusco and Machu Picchu, then deep into the Amazon jungle, handling every detail with care, sincerity.

What made it even more special was the consistency throughout the experience. Every driver and guide I encountered shared the same heartfelt energy. They were easy to find, always on time, and carried a calm presence that helped everything feel aligned. It allowed me to move through the journey with ease and actually enjoy the experience without stressing over logistics.

Then there was Kevin, my guide in the jungle, who took the experience to another level. With a sacred presence and deep knowledge of the land, he didn’t just show me the jungle, he helped me connect with it. He was a kind and gentle spirit, who was fully present. His guidance felt personal and grounded.

Peru Jungle Trips is more than a travel service. It is an experience curated by people who genuinely care. I’m grateful to have found it, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for something meaningful and real❤️
