Itinerary Summary

Day 1 – Cusco – Ninamarca – Paucartambo – Manu National Park

Our private transport will pick you up early in the morning from your hotel in Cusco. Along the way, you will enjoy beautiful landscapes and stop at cultural and archaeological sites such as Ninamarca and the picturesque colonial town of Paucartambo. Finally, you will arrive at our Eco-lodge in Manu National Park, where your first night in the Amazon awaits.

Day 2 – Eco-Lodge – Madre de Dios River – Machuwasi Lake

Get ready for a unique experience of birdwatching and contact with biodiversity. You will sail along the Madre de Dios River and visit Machuwasi Lake, where you will go canoeing surrounded by rainforest landscapes. At night, you will enjoy an exciting night walk to spot caimans and observe wildlife active in the dark.

Day 3 – Eco-Lodge – Parrot Clay Lick – Ancient Trees

Early in the morning you will travel by boat to the Parrot Clay Lick, one of the most colorful spectacles of the Amazon. You will then return to the eco-lodge for breakfast and explore trails surrounded by giant trees such as the ceiba, as well as learn about medicinal plants. Day 4 – Eco-Lodge – Atalaya – Cusco

Itinerary

Day 01: Cusco – Ninamarca – Paucartambo – San Pedro – Manu National Park

Cultural and natural exploration from Cusco to Manu National Park

The greatest adventure of your life will start early in Cusco; at approximately 6:00 am, our private transport will pick you up from your hotel. From there, your journey to Manu National Park begins.

Along the way, you will be amazed by the beautiful Andean landscapes. After 1.5 hours, you will arrive at the archaeological site of Ninamarca, known as the “Chullpas of Ninamarca,” funerary towers from pre-Inca times. You will have the opportunity to explore these enigmatic ruins accompanied by our professional guide.

After this cultural stop, the trip continues to Paucartambo, considered the “Best Tourist Town in the World” by MT in 2023. You will stroll through its colonial architecture, learn about its traditions, and enjoy a delicious breakfast. Afterward, you will continue toward the entrance of Manu National Park.

From the park gate, you will begin a 40-minute journey to reach Acjanaco, a key point to discover Manu’s biodiversity and a place where chicha was once offered to the Apus. Here you must present your original passport for the mandatory registration.

Next, you will visit the viewpoint of the cloud forest, from which you can see the sacred mountain “Tres Cruces.” You will then continue to San Pedro, making brief stops to observe flora and fauna such as quetzals, toucans, oropendolas, and, with luck, the spectacled bear. In San Pedro, you will enjoy a delicious lunch prepared by our professional chef. In the afternoon, you will visit the viewpoint of the cock-of-the-rock, Peru’s national bird.

Around 5:00 pm, you will arrive at our eco-lodge, located in the middle of nature. There, you can relax in a comfortable room until dinner time.

Day 02: Eco-Lodge – Madre de Dios River – Machuwasi Lake

Canoeing and wildlife observation in the Madre de Dios River and Machuwasi Lake

The day will begin early in the morning. At the eco-lodge, you will enjoy a nutritious breakfast and have free time to pack your luggage before heading to the birdwatching viewpoint. Manu National Park offers a unique experience in the world since it is home to over 1000 bird species such as hummingbirds, macaws, among others. After this activity, you will head to Atalaya port.

Atalaya port is a natural dock on the upper Madre de Dios River. Preparation is essential here, so you will receive rubber boots, life jackets, and the necessary gear. You will then board a traditional Peruvian boat to sail along the river surrounded by Amazonian landscapes. After this adventure, our team will take you to a new eco-lodge where you can relax until lunchtime.

With renewed energy after a delicious lunch, you will head to Machuwasi Lake. To get there, you will sail along the river and then walk along a trail until you reach its pristine and calm waters. Here you will practice canoeing, always accompanied by our team, who will provide instructions, equipment, and safety.

While paddling, you will feel the excitement of canoeing as you approach areas inhabited by capybaras, camungos, and birds. After the experience, a short walk will take you to a watchtower, from where you will admire ancient trees, endemic species, and the vastness of the forest.

At the end of the day, you will return to the eco-lodge to enjoy a delicious dinner and prepare for the last adventure of the day: a night walk. On this jungle trek, you will be able to observe golden-eyed caimans and other species that only appear under the Amazon darkness.

Day 3: Eco-Lodge – Parrot Clay Lick – Centenary Trees

The most colorful spectacle of the Amazon awaits you early in the morning. Around 5:00 am, our guide will take you to the Parrot Clay Lick. The boat trip lasts approximately 40 minutes, during which you will enjoy the arrival of parrots, parakeets, and, with luck, macaws. This moment is truly unforgettable.

Back at the eco-lodge you will enjoy a delicious breakfast. Then, you will take a guided walk along jungle trails where you will discover the majesty of the giant ceiba tree, learn about native medicinal plants, and observe wildlife native to this unique ecosystem.

At 2:00 pm you will return to the eco-lodge for lunch. Our specialized chef in Amazonian cuisine will delight you with irresistible dishes prepared with local ingredients.

In the afternoon, the adventure continues with traditional piranha fishing. While practicing this activity, you will enjoy one of the most stunning sunsets in the jungle. At nightfall, you will return to the eco-lodge for dinner. If you still have energy, you can join a night walk before resting.

Day 4: Eco-Lodge – Atalaya – Cusco

Wake up in the Amazon and rest in the imperial city of Cusco

The day will begin with the sounds of the jungle: birds, leaves, and the living nature will welcome you to your last morning in the Amazon. You will enjoy your last breakfast at the eco-lodge and pack your belongings for the return to the imperial city of Cusco.

Our team will kindly accompany you along the return route. You will navigate once again along the Amazon River, saying goodbye to the jungle landscapes with your heart full of unforgettable memories, until you reach the Atalaya pier. There, our private transport and professional driver will be waiting to safely take you back to Cusco.

On the way, you will stop at Acjanaco to enjoy lunch before continuing the journey to the capital of the Inca Empire. Arrival in Cusco will be approximately at 6:00 pm, where our driver will take you directly to your hotel or the airport, as planned.

I had an excellent experience with Peru Jungle Trips!
I was in Cusco and wanted to visit the jungle originally thinking Tambopata, overwhelmed with options. My desire was to visit the Amazon and be deep in the jungle with few people. I walked into the office and met Pedro who talked with me for over half an hour explaining different options. Ultimately, Pedro told me that Manu National Park is the place to be in the jungle with few people. Pedro helped me book a 6 day tour in Manu National Park 2 days later.
It is hard to describe how special Manu national park was. The trees, the wildlife, the river, seeing uncontacted Natives, and hearing all of the jungle sounds.
I would not have experienced Manu National Park without Pedro and Peru Jungle Trips.

A great experience without a doubt. I took the 7 day tour to the reserved area of the manu and it was fantastic. The guide was very friendly, the cook always made good food and all the drivers/crew were very professional.

In the reserve we could find many types of fauna and the guide gave information at all times and knew many species.

Excellent tour (4 days, 3 nights) including the first morning at the Belén market. Very friendly. They fulfilled the itinerary with some flexibility and accommodated some minor requests we had. The accommodations are simple and have electricity and internet a couple of hours a day, but most of the time you'll be exploring the surrounding area, almost always by motorboat. Kevin, our guide, was pleasant and interesting; definitely a recommended experience.
